The Ancient Wood Fossil Boulder Opal,
From QLD Fields in Yowah is a striking collector's piece featuring vibrant pools of opal interspersed within the sandstone and ironstone.
Leaving remnants of compressed wood from millions of years ago to be formed and taken its place by the Silica, which is known as Wood Replacement Opal!
This phenomenon occurs when silica-rich water seeps into buried wood, replacing the original organic material molecule by molecule over millions of years. The intricate patterns you see are the preserved internal structures and grain of the ancient wood, which has been entirely converted into opal and embedded within the ironstone host rock.
The contrast of rich orange-brown hues with brilliant greens and blues enhances its aesthetic appeal, making it a valuable addition for collectors and enthusiasts alike. What an astonishing piece of art and Opal and millions of years of formation!

Image & Video Disclaimer: Opals are photographed and filmed under controlled lighting to best represent each stone. Due to opal's natural light diffraction, colour play may vary depending on your viewing environment and light source. This is an inherent characteristic of natural opal, not a defect.
